Lol, really? Dan Hauss you're killing me ;)

Dan Hauss came out with Stir Crazy. On the DVD in the bonus section is a trick with a straw, changing color. (well the strip on the straw changes color). Really? Does that belong on any DVD, even as bonus material?

Almost four years ago I gave away that idea for free. Did you steal it? Of course not. I would not call that creative enough to publish it at all.

I think I heard on WPR that the straw can be handed out right after the stripes are changed to all yellow. So there might be more going on.

If you can show a red striped straw, change it to a yellow striped straw and then hand it out then the bonus effect is a far superior effect than the main effect is.
Is that true or were they talking shit?

well you take a starw show both sides having a red stripe. Then you change both to yellow, then one to yellow and one to red. And then you hand out the staw in this permanent state of half red half yellow.

I came up with that on the spot in KFC, posted the idea on a forum like two years ago.

If even the dumbest ideas are being published and 'owned' these days, how are idiots like me meant to have any creatvity?

If you can hand out the straw and ALL the stripes are yellow, the method is clearly different. (Not necessarily better or worse than your method, just different.) So nothing noteworthy here.

Actually, I wasn't aware that the straws were different on each side. (I normally opt for going home with my fast food and drinking something from the fridge) I also hadn't seen your post on the subject. So maybe I was the one guy this addition was meant for. So I thank both you and Dan.

To add insult to injury, the "main effect" was published in Linking Ring Magazine 25 years ago (July 1987, page 74).

that's the new 'Rick Lax' method of invention - find a trick in a children's book or old beginner's book and sell it to the ignorant Ellusionist crowd who call themselves magicians though have no foundation of information to justify that claim. At first it angered me. Now I think he might be a genius.

Bottom line: the magic cafe has bred the most ignorant mass of wanna be magicians and as a result more and more bad magic is being released and hailed as great. How else can you explain the popularity of self admitted idea takers like Justin Miller.

When all you've ever eaten is dirt, Taco Bell is a delicacy. I feel sorry for magicians today. They have no idea how badly they are being cheated and how badly they are cheating themselves.

Just to clarify - there is a little more going on here than Roland suggests with the bonus effect. The straw is shown with both stripes red. You can change them to yellow, then back to red, or show one of each. But at the end, you show BOTH stripes yellow and it is instantly examinable.

So yes, the effect goes from 2 red stripes to 2 yellow stripes, and the all-yellow straw is instantly examinable. You don't hand out a red/yellow straw at the end.

I'm all for accountability, but there should be accuracy when calling someone out.

This is incorrect - you hand out an all-yellow straw at the end with the bonus effect.
