It's weird that some people assume that when a magician releases some of his material he has become a sellout and all of his material should be released. Even the magician in question seems to believe that. "I have released parts of my act and people liked it. Now I gotta release everything, while it's running so well."
I have actually talked to a magician on Facebook who told me that he likes to get a copy of the entirety of Luke Jermay's act. To him he feels that he has all the right to know about the routines mentioned but not explained in the "3510" book.
This is very disrespectful to the creative guy who released some of his ideas. Stop it!

People want to copy stuff cause is easy, that's why they buy every DVD, book, gimmick etc. Yes, it's fine to use other magicians material, but wanting everything to be released it's very disrespectful. It's not a bad idea to take time and put the brain to work, something original is always better than just something copied. That's why I disagree with many stores online producing stuff and selling like pancakes at breakfast. I have ideas that took me many years to develop and I understand why to many magicians is difficult to share something they created. And well, there are magicians who just like money and sell their stuff and kinda stains the image of others. And people, is good to put the brain to work, use some ideas of others, yes it's fine, but try to work harder with unique stuff and there will be better results and self gratification. Totally agreed with you. Great short post that was cracking into my mind since long years ago. Happy Holidays!
If they want his act they can get it the traditional way by watching him do it over and over and then stealing it, the idea that he some how owes it to them is ludicrous.
As long as they are open about what you learn and what is performance in the ad copy then it is fine. There is always that slight heartbreak when I see something I really like and the words at the bottom read (performance only), but I don't feel like I'm owed anything by any magician. I'd rather a magician selects the choice things they want to release from their repertoire then just farting out every half formed idea they have and trying to charge money for it.
Why release all your stuff.. when you can be smug and cunty about keeping certain secrets to yourself... like christian bale in the prestige (tho its not hard for christian bale to act cunty)... but seriously, the minute you sell a part of your act, its unoriginal, people can be performing that trick all over the world... you make a lot more money by creating magic and using it to bill yourself as "unique"... its why a lot of the work i do is my own take, because i want to distinguish myself from the pack... the thing is, its always grinded my gears when a magician goes "and heres something weird i discovered as a kid" and than does something like Wayne houchin's thread... it just makes me cringe, i know thats just patter, but theres something wrong to me about it, its almost like they're taking credit for it, they take the applause for it, in a way i think thats wrong... the truth is, magic is like pizza, you can buy fatty cheap take away pizza thats mass produced and everyones eating it, or you can get fresh ingredients and a little dough and make it yourself.. the latter will always taste way better!
If they want his act they can get it the conventional way by viewing him do it over and over and then taking it, the concept that he some how owes it to them is foolish.
