Apparently this is a performance art piece. It's called the 'THE SANDDORNBALANCE'. Here is a link to the artists "licensed" to perform it: http://www.rigolo.ch/sanddornbalance/artists/?lang=en
I disagree, a the same play can differ very much. Be it the stage elements, the blocking, the emphasis. The background, and various other elements. Yes the words are dictated and the story, but that's about it. The costumes can be very opulent or very little. In the above case everything is the same.
I understand where you're coming from, I really do. This piece, though, was taught from a single man with a specific vision. Those who perform it are carrying out that vision. Whether it's Lara Jacobs or Miyoko Shida, the artistic vision is very specific. What is important is that this piece of performance art is viewed by many audiences and the artists themselves mean nothing in the vision of this specific piece. Each artist performs to their own comfort level and if that comfort level means using the same clothing and the same music, then so be it. I don't quite understand why attacking the artists for being true to the vision is so important...

ReplyDeleteThat includes the music, the setting and the costume?
ReplyDeleteHave you ever watched a Shakespearean play? It's all pretty much the same, only the actors change.
