Edit: I should add, that Michael Eaton had nothing to say in the decision that Splinter would be a paid download. He intended it to be a free download.
I think that the best part of this rant is your obvious inability to fully express yourself. You are so outraged that you are at a loss for words and that speaks louder than any rant you could have given. Funny stuff, Bro - a superlative rant in so many ways. I simply cannot thank you enough or tell you just how excellent this video really is because words just don't suffice.
Just off hand, what do you think about the "Eye of the Tiger" download (which is nothing more than "Threading the Needle" found in Wilson's encyclopedia)? If you watch the video footage, you'll see that the loop twists when the eye is threaded. So not only are they selling published material, but they are teaching it wrong to boot. That can be had for $5.95.
Much of their material isn't new... The professor's nightmare was a download also.
But look at their public. Their public are young men that are just starting in magic, whom haven't read any magic books, which have access to their parents credit cards and like heroin addicts want a quick magic fix, nothing that would make them think to long or make them practice very hard.
It's very sad indeed, but I even figured it out, while watching the video. It isn't that difficult to figure out. Anyone that even would pay for this deserves to be ripped off.
I think more magic rip-offs should be exposed. That way magic dealers might think twice of endorsing a bad product, and "inventors" stop bringing out morronic material.
I'm more annoyed at the ads that keep showing up for it in my blog reading. They are hyping the heck out of this download, and quite frankly I don't know what the download will teach you that some basic knowledge and a once through of the trailer hasn't already told you.
Me too. Roland's "playing around" was a great example of how sleights can be mixed and matched when you have them down pat. I'm am extremely envious of Roland's retention vanish.
Really good stuff, and I'm stealing the purse within a purse idea.
I have seen a (full) lecture from Mr Eaton which was good, although I am surprised that anyone would think of releasing this as a single download.. Modern times I guess.
Very generous of you to share this Roland, you should watch magic that offends you more often!
I agree with Marplots, the retention vanish is excellent. The whole routine makes an excellent coin 'work out'. As with a lot of Rolands stuff, there is much here (beyond the actual routine) which gets you thinking. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for the video link. I'm practically a novice when it comes to coins -- I can only do the French drop, classic palm, and a knuckle roll. This has given me some ideas.
That routine is nothing short of awesome. I loved every single phase of it. I'm not going to do it of course; that would be a pretty poor way to reward Roland's professional altruism; but it definitely got my magic grey cells rolling. The idea of using a purse instead of a card as the screening implement for a matrix sequence, alone, was worth every penn... oh wait, it didn't cost anything.
Seriously, thanks a lot for sharing it, Roland. People like you are the reason why hope in the magic community isn't entirely lost.
By the way, Roland, I - like Marplots - like your retention vanish a lot. May I enquire where it comes from? I don't recall seeing it in Bobo's Modern Coin Magic...
Ah, indeed, thanks for the pointer. I had interpreted this vanish in a slightly different manner; that's why I didn't recognised that rolling-around-the-fingertips motion of yours. Mkes me want to re-explore it, as well as the subsequent Vernon coin vanish. Thanks again! ;)
Hey Roland Very nice coin work my friend , love your click pass, will have to put that into my practice session , once I have my 'Gallo Pitch ' down (having trouble with the rhythm .
Got to join in with these other people, it's a really, really solid routine and definitely well thought out. I tip my hat. This, this you could feel confident selling.
I'll need to dust off my coins (and, uh, buy a coin purse) to try to practice this. 'Try' being the key word - my coin work is rubbish. Ah, but a man's reach should exceed his grasp, &c, &c.

ReplyDeleteThat Eaton guy looks eerily familiar. Roundish face, goat beard, portly...
ReplyDeleteOne of you two should start wearing glasses.
Just finished watching Roland's routine and explanation. Very good, better than a lot of the videos I've seen from Penguin.

Thank you. Good as always!
ReplyDeleteAgreed with the above comments. Some great ideas in Roland's FREE video, and a good way to practice various sleights and timing with coins. Love it.
ReplyDeleteShame, I like a lot of Penguin's stuff - this is not one of them.
Thank you Buddy good one
ReplyDeleteDamn, do more of these stuff. More routines that good could be a bonus to the rants too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, Roland: top notch!
ReplyDeleteThanks Roland...nice routine. Sad how things have changed from multi effect DVD's to one off single trick download and DVD garbage.
ReplyDeleteVery nice routine by Roland if you haven't requested it yet. Made me want to get my kennedy's out of the drawer and practice.
ReplyDeleteRoland, thanks for sharing your routine. Also thank you for your time and the entertainment you provide in your blog. Dominique.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the share, very nice routine!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your routine. Some nice ideas in there and in the true spirit of magicians helping magicians.
ReplyDeleteHilarious. Thanks for the coin video!

Nice elements - I particularly like the click pass. You have a very patient teaching style.

I don't recall seeing it in Bobo's Modern Coin Magic...
Well it actually is from Bobo: "The Illusive Coin Pass" page 29.
ReplyDeleteAh, indeed, thanks for the pointer.
